Day 9- Hike/Beach day

Today we decided to be adventurous, so we went on a hike this morning. It became clear to us how little English people here speak, but they were all very willing to help us along the way. Along the way we caught the attention of many locals who were very interested in where we were going, but didn’t particularly speak English. We started in Vietri and the hike took us about 3 hours. We ended up walking through Benincasa, Raito, Dragonea, Albori.

(While we were on this road an Italian boy tried to pick us up on his scooter by saying; “I have a free taxi ride for you” and then he drove off)

After our walk we came back to the Airbnb and made ourselves caprese salad and pasta.

For the rest of the afternoon we hung out at the beach and then in the evening we hung out at our favourite spot on the rocks in front of the water.

Day 8- Off to the Amalfi Coast

Today we took a 2 hour train to Salerno and then a bus to Vietri Sul Mare. (Sorry to everyone who Aline and I told we were going to Sperlonga, we were wrong)

Then we hiked 2kms downhill to our Airbnb almost right off the beach. We met the family that owns the Airbnb and they were very sweet, so they lent us their beach chairs for the rest of the day! So we made some lunch and then laid on the beach for the rest of the day!

Then for the rest of the evening we just hung out!

Day 7

Today was another long day! We went and saw the Roman forum and the Coliseum.

Then we had lunch at the park beside the Coliseum.

Then made a quick pit stop at the Altar of the Father for another picture.

Then back to the hostel to rest for a bit! Then in the evening went to some live music and saw some interesting characters. Then after we had our first Aperol Spritz.

Day 6

Today is Aline’s first full day! We started out at St. Peter’s Basilica.

Next we waited in line for an hour and a half to get into the Vatican museum. Had a few regrets not going earlier when it wasn’t so busy and hot.

For lunch we found a cute little family owned pizzeria.

In the evening we toured the Pantheon, Trevi fountain and the Spanish steps.

Day 5

Today we passed Capitoline Hill on our way to the Fountains of the Naiads.

Then we went in the Santa Maria Basilica.

Has my first Potato Pizza for lunch and then hung out in a caffe until we picked up Aline from Termini!

And Aline is finally here! Took a bit of a rest and then went out for supper!

For the rest of the evening we found a nice lookout and bottle of wine and watched the sunset!

Day 4

Another long day! But today we started out by going to campo de fiori, which is a little market daily market.

Next we walked to the Jewish Ghetto’s where we tried to listen in to some of the tour guides, which was more difficult that we expected. So we just enjoyed the views the are had to offer instead.

( Fountain of the Tortuous, which we found on our walk to the Ghettos)

Next we went into San Marcello al Corcos church, which has been Mattea and mines favourite church so far.

Then we walked to Piazza Venezi and saw the Altar of the Fatherland. Which had a great view of Rome and the Coliseum.

(the Italian flag in flowers)

Next we took a walk past the coliseum, ate lunch and sat in the park Parco del Colle Oppio.

Here are some other cool pictures while walking around, found a church and also found a spot that reminded us of home.

Then back to the hostel for a bit. Out to supper and then finished the night off watching the street band. But on the way we stopped for my new favourite snack Canolli’s.

Day 3

Today was a long day we walked over 21 Kms. Our journey started at Piazza Nova.

Then we went to the Pantheon, which was a church originally dedicated to the Roman Gods, but now it’s Catholic.

Then off to Trevi fountain

Next we climbed the Spanish steps and watched Americans getting heckled to buy roses and umbrellas. Next we toured the Trinita dei Monti church.

Next we walked to the Borghese park and had some lunch, and hid in the shade from the hot part of the day.

After lunch, we made our way to Piazza del Pincio, but on our way we stopped at Terrazzo del Pincio, which over looks the Piazza.

Next we took a detour back to our hostel to go down via Margutta

We rested a few hours and then after we made ourselves some pasta then went and got some shaved ice and made our way to Gianicolo lookout.

We meant to watch the sunset at the lookout, but when we got there we realized that the sun sets on the opposite side of the sky behind a bunch of trees. So instead we decided to finish off the night with a bottle of wine and some people watching!

Day 2

Well today was 36, so we went to Santo Marinella for a beach day. Then came back to the hostel mid afternoon, and hid from the heat. Made ourselves some supper then headed to the Vatican! We had our first taste of Italian ice cream in front of St. Peter’s church!

Day 1

Finally arrived in Italy! Successfully took the train to Termini by myself. Also, learnt that McDonalds is not as marked here in Italy, might have got lost for a bit trying to find Mattea, but we eventually met up! Then made our way to the hostel for a quick shower. After that we walked to Aventine hill to meet two of Mattea’s friends.

After that it was off to a pizzeria, where I discovered it is normal for pizza not to be cut for you!
